My
friend Jordan is staying with me this weekend. Love her. Today we went to SoHo and
she was showing me around to the coolest stores. It was like
I was the one visiting NYC! ha. For whatever reason, I rarely go to SoHo. It's pretty common for NYorkers to get so caught up in their own neighborhood that they hardly venture out. I talked to one of the mothers at the playground about this today and she said the same thing. She said last year she would meet twice a month and have a lunch in a new neighborhood with her friends. It forced them to see new things. My sister has mentioned that she does the same thing in her Florida town. What motivates you to see something new? I always get motivated when friends and family come to visit!
I feel a
Babble Kid Scoop post coming up! Here's what I'm thinking: This weekend/week take your kids out to a new place and tell me your experience! Did you kids like getting out of their routine? Was it too much work? Was it worth it? A totally disaster? I want to hear all! I'll include your story in my post! Perhaps I'll make a slide show if you all send me enough pics! I'll link back of course!
Have a fun weekend. I can't wait to hear about your adventure!
I'm so excited (I love her blog and I forget) that you are friends with Jordan but then I remember that I think I Found your blog through her blog. So happy for your weekend! Can't wait to hear what the stores were. I saw her tweets asking for suggestions. You will have a lovely comprehensive guide of where you went, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteusually people coming to visit or food motivates us to try something new. just tonight my friend and I got lost going to Goat Hill pizza in SF because we had only been there once before and didn't know the neighborhood. I'm thinking I need to get to know protrero better.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time with Jordan visiting! Maybe I'll see you guys around the building. I love the photo you took that's on her blog – I *wish* the trees across the street looked that beautiful and yellow right now! In response to your post, I'm actually heading to Brooklyn for the day and I hardly ever go out there. I just know nothing about the area. So today it's about meetings and some New York exploration :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. We did two laundry service drop-offs this week!! Amazing!! Thanks so much for the rec. I can't get over how perfect everything gets folded.
I live in WashingtonHeights, NYC, and I think I'm going to take you up on your exploring idea. I have an 18 month old so we'll see how he likes it. I bet you'll just get my thoughts when I report. ha.
ReplyDeleteHey Sharon, what stores did you visit in Soho? I recently moved to New York, and I'm always looking for interesting shops!
ReplyDeleteWow, there are so many things I've never done in the bay area. What COULD motivate me to do them? Hmmm
ReplyDeleteI definitely think that once you've lived in a place for a few months wanting to explore your own place seems a bit weird, but it can be so much fun! I love finding new coffee shops and stuff in Melbourne.

I have not been to the wax museum and I have passed in front of it so many times!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon, we took our little 2 month old on a day trip to the mountains this weekend, and it worked out really well! She slept most of the way there and back and was awake, rested and happy while we strolled around the town and had a glass of wine in a local restaurant. I thought maybe she'd be up all night because of all her napping, but nope, she still went down at her regular scheduled time of 6:30pm. I'll send you some pics and a longer blurb in a separate email!

I really enjoy exploring new places to eat with a good friend of mine:) We just started doing this a few months ago:) She introduced me to new cafe this morning:) I ate my first Frittata:) I'm Italian but I never had one:) It was delicious!:) I give this cafe a thumbs up:) There was something about this place that reminded me of the cafe down the street from where you lived. Our next stop is a place that all the locals talk about...we both have never been there before:) I hope it's good:) I think the best part of exploring a new place is just hanging out and having a good time with friends:) I'll keep you posted on our next eating spot:) Have fun exploring the city with Jordon:) Take notes so that when I come back to visit,we can hit some more cool spots:)xo
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteWe lived in NYC, but moved to Toronto last year. In both cities we made a point of doing at least one special activity each weekend. I believe that the entire city is the best playground to explore.
Our recent adventures took us aboard a vintage diesel train in a small town called Uxbridge and to a country fair, right in the middle of downtown Toronto (very surreal). If you are interested in seeing what life is like in my city, with a very lively 3-year old boy, take a look at my blog.
I wrote a post on my blog about what we did this past weekend... Nothing special, just different.
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and I love it! I saw your scoop-request and I wondered exactly what you're looking for. I take my little girl on adventures all the time and she loves it! We visit museums, childrens and "regular" ones, and special events at least a few times per month. She is very active so I think she diggs the stimulation. I also have a trick of going before lunch and naptime. With luck, we go to our adventure, eat lunch there, then nap on the way home or when we get home. Then the remainder of the afternoon is pretty low-key at home. I try to find free or relatively inexpensive places to go- luckily some very historic (and fun!)places are free or modestly priced.
ReplyDeleteI was joking the other day that my daughter has done more in two short years than a lot of people have done in their lives :) Maybe it works because it's sort of incorporated into her routine. And I think the places she loves the most will become places we go to each season as a tradition, and I just love that idea- that we are building traditions.
