Since moving to the city, I've been able to talk to people about their personal experiences with September 11th. They all mention an eery silence. A smell. A grayness that blanketed the city. The loss.
I discovered the Staten Island September 11 Memorial when I first moved here. It's titled "Postcards". The large white envelopes framing the city skyline always have an impact on me. The silence does too.
That is amazing. I am adding it to my list to see the next time I get to the city! My daughter was having a really hard time last night..she said the city felt so heavy!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I actually stayed in Staten Island a couple months before the attacks. The view of the skyline is wonderful from there.
ReplyDeleteit's a beautiful memorial. i went there a few years back and it was a very beautiful testament to the horrific loss. thank you for sharing. x

I Can Be Many Things
I just took some friends visiting the city on the Staten Island Ferry. Wish I would have known about the memorial. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous memorial! I still can't believe it was 10 years ago.

I saw the memorial at Ground Zero for the first time yesterday morn at 5:30 am for the live telecast of the 10 yr. anniversary. They said it was the biggest man-made waterfall in the USA. People were doing rubbings on the names like we've seen some church members do with tombstones for genealogy. Our church service was beautiful on "freedom" & remembrances of that day. Richard & I walked across the GGBridge carry flags we carried for the Bridge's 50 anniversary in a meditative walk in remembrance of all who suffered that day & continue to do so.
