Last Friday it rained all morning and into the afternoon. Not the fun puddle jumping rain, just the slow steady grey drizzle kind. There's an idea making the blog rounds about "there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes". Great concept, but I just wasn't in the mood to face the great outdoors with my boys. Instead, I decided to dump all my art supplies on the kitchen table and get inspired. I let the boys cut, glue, and draw whatever they wanted for a while, and then it hit me!
I could make race tracks with the tape Todd Oldham gave me from the Kid Made Modern event! You know, tape race tracks! Another idea making the blog rounds! I've seen people make tape racetracks on the floor (and couch!) with soft tape like this, but I liked the boldness of the Kid Made Modern tape. It isn't as gummy as duck tape, but it had similar feel. I used up all the tape and made the most colorful racetracks around. And then the dinosaurs attacked.
I'm not the crafty type, more of the impulsive type. I didn't really think about the consequences of pulling tape off our old linoleum flooring. Three days later Rob pulled it all up after I assured him I did a few test strips to make sure it removes easily (I didn't actually. Whoops!). For the most part it came up just fine, but it pulled up a couple of the tile edges. I can see why the softer tape like this
made more sense.While the Kids Made Modern tape doesn't get released until late May, Duck Brand Tape
has been making decorative tape for a while now. It's is the perfect thing to have laying around for a rainy day. Check out patterned duck tape here

Everyone, especially bloggers, seems obsessed with leopard print. I feel obligated to include it.There's a million (better!) projects to do with decorative tape. Some cute and some bizarre. What are your favorite or craziest tape creations? Extra bonus points if you found a tutorial using the leopard duck tape!

ReplyDeleteHow fun! I'm similarly un-crafty, but I did make temporary frames for some bright maps with thin black electrical tape. I was proud of my ingenuity but I'm afraid it may look like I just taped some maps up to the wall. No one's had the guts to call me out on it, so that's a plus.

ReplyDeleteThe saying you mention is a very old, Scandinavian one which I'm sure came about because of our very long, dark and often wet winters. And yes, as a child I was forced to play outside every day, no matter the weather. I simply had to put on wellies and my helly-hansen (something like this http://shop.hellyhansen.com/NO/item/43101/?partner=6025&t_type=src&t_type=cat) and off I went to play in the rain. What I wouldn't have given for the chance to make tape race tracks on the floor inside. Ahh, those were the days...
