The Rockefeller Christmas Tree: Best Night EVER!!!!!!

Last Sunday we made a pilgrimage to the Rockefeller Christmas Tree. I really wanted to go. My family? Not at all.  It was such a disaster, with our personalities clashing the whole time. When we started walking around the finally loop around the ice skating rink, I daydreamed about my forties.  I found myself doing the calculation in my head again. 43-31=12. By the time I'm 43, my kids will be 20 and 18. Twelve more years of this nonsense! Have you ever done the calculation? It's terrible, I know, but some days I can't help do the math! It works both ways though. The next morning I heard the kids whispering about the toilet paper, Sally (our The Elf on the Shelf), put all over the Christmas tree and my heart melted. It's a magical trying time with these stinks.
i love this image. captures the night perfectly.
what i came to see.
can we go ice skating? no. can we go ice skating? no. can we go ice skating? no.

  1. OH man that area of town is CRAZY this time of year. I totally would have been excited like you to go see it, and would imagine my family would have done the same thing. Great job hanging in there!

  3. I am 42 and my kids are your kids age so when I do the math that just makes me old...so I don't do it and just get my hair colored.

  5. I've never been to NYC while the tree was up and I want to go so bad. I think it would be a perfect date night.

  7. Oh if only they realized how lucky they are...they will in time! PS: I do the math all the time...and I only have about 4 years to go...for the second time...I just got lectured by my daughter "if you're not going to say something nice to me..." booger!

  8. Haha, I know all about that math! It's how I reassure myself that losing my 20's to kids isn't so bad... I keep telling myself I will get it back in my 40's. Here's hoping ;)

  11. Oh gosh, I really really love you for your honesty. After a crappy night where my toddler refused to go to bed until 11 (that's right, 11 frigging pm!) and I missed out on spending time with our guests and husband in the living room, I needed to remember that not all can be perfect as we're envisioning in our heads when one has kids. But I tell you, all this perfection some women put forth on their blogs, it makes me want to puke. Especially right now around the holidays, ooooh it's all about "gift guides for my awesome brother who can fly a plane bullshit", how perfect our christmas traditions are and how awesome and smart my toddler is/we're the bestest family under the frigging sun. Ugh, really?! Puke. So, you're awesome. Awesome with a perfectly normal, cute family and no pretentiousness in everything you do and post. Keep at it, you're great. And, again, thanks for the honesty. Happy holidays!

    1. Comments like this, a compliment to one blogger but an obvious insult to another well known blogger are really childish. And also silly since the two bloggers are friends!
