My kids started school a few weeks ago and I've been twiddling my thumbs ever since. I clean a lot. Basically that's all I do. And grocery shop. I need to get out more. I should be contributing to society. Volunteering.
So I searched NYC Service and found a great organization. I thought I was a perfect fit and applied immediately. The director responded back to me a week later and was like, "We're actually looking for someone with a little more professional experience. This one might not be a fit for you. We'll keep you in mind for other opportunities for sure!"
I wanted to die when I read the email.
It's come to that. I don't have enough experience to volunteer. Volunteering in NYC is tough apparently. They don't mess around.
Now that volunteering is out, I'm considering a career in modeling. For the professional experience, of course. Then. Then! I'll be able to volunteer. Here are the poses that show my versatility . . .

ReplyDeletethat like applying to student jobs at my college, where to answer phones you need 1-5 years full time experience in an office! it's a student position, who has that experience and if they did why would they be applying there for $7.5/hr?
ReplyDeleteIf i had the chance to stay home and do nothing all day I'd take it in a new york minute (and so would anybody else that works a normal job). Why are you trying to work?? It sucks. People play the lotto/try to become famous, count the days until vacation...all so they don't have to work.

You just need to attend one of there orientation sessions and then you can sign up for any project through their website (with or without experience!). They have tons of opportunities on there and they are all really diverse- I really recommend it!

DeleteThis is exactly what I needed today. Thanks for sharing! I tried to volunteer with various organizations all over the city to use my masters degree, and no one wanted me. It certainly doesn't do much for ones self esteem, does it? In the mean time, come model for me! I'm happy to shoot you any day of the week :)
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about all the organizations I've applied to for volunteer "opportunities". Shit, homeslice- it's free labor! Why doesn't anyone call back? And don't even get me started on the screening process for adopting animals. I mean, I get the landlord issues and avoiding people with a history of giving away their pets, but ruling me out because I have a doggy door?? AREN'T THESE CATS STREET STRAYS RIDDLED WITH WORMS NARROWLY RESCUED FROM THE BIG SLEEP?

Deletehahaha your post gave me such a laugh! Great way to end my looong day. i've never heard of anything like this before as so many places love volunteers as it's unpaid (right!???) Now i want to say my famous word, 'Oh' and top it off with a "Get 'outta here" comment. But I do love your poses and you'd made an excellent model!! My name is KAITLYN MASER, my family and i live together live in USA. It was after seven years i got to discover that my Husband was unfaithful to me. I didn't know what was going on at first but as he got deep in the affair with his new lover, i felt that our marriage was on the rocks. Am Mark Raven, from Boulder windshield, Last year I broke up with my girlfriend due to many misunderstandings and I remember very well how hard I had to fight to get her back.
