I kept putting off bathing suit shopping because I thought I still had time to lose the weight. A week before the cruise started, I weighed myself: 145 pounds. The exact weight I started at. The same weight I've been since I got married. Since I was in college. Since I graduated from High School. I've always always always landed back at 145. A size 8. Not skinny but not curvy. Just a little lumpy in some areas and droopy in others and fabulous in others. And with that attitude, I went bathing suit shopping. Alone and online. I found this swimsuit at Anthro and took my chances. Even had to buy expedient shipping because I procrastinated so long.
I tried it on and I'm convinced it's the best swim suit in the universe. I have never felt more confident and comfortable walking around the beach until I got it. I've wore it ten days straight and plan on wearing it until it disintegrates. I'm hoping the purple one goes on sale soon so I can buy it too. The ruching does wonders for my squishy belly and the deep neck line? Frumpy mom no more. I'm sure there are knock-off versions at TJ-Maxx, but unless I have to, I hate shopping in actual stores. I'm lazy. Here's the details: I'm 5'5", weigh 145 and ordered it in size 8. It fits perfect.
Turns out I crushed bathing suit season without being stick thin. I never thought it was possible. All I needed was the right suit. The only proof is this excellent footage Ella took while testing out my waterproof case. Nothing but quality entertainment over here.

ReplyDeleteI'm 5'5", and spent my early and mid 20s a skinny 120-130lbs. And I felt fat (and thought I was). Then I spent my late 20s at 145lbs, and still felt fat (and thought I was). Then I turned 30 two years ago, moved to Australia and ballooned to 160lbs. And definitely felt fat (and think I am). Then I did 12wbt last summer and lost an amazing 15lbs, and felt thin and fit at 145lbs. Then I went through a hellish 8 months and gained it all back, and now I'm back to 160lbs-ish and am freaking out all over again. We're going to Fiji in a couple of weeks and I plan on wearing nothing but mumus.

I, too am 5'5" and 145 lbs. We are about the same age and I have two kids. I am fighting the battle between accepting the jiggle that comes from infrequent exercise, aging, and eating whatever I feel like AND wanting to be "skinny" and a smaller size. This post made me feel good because you look gorgeous swimming and having fun and just being you. I need to forget about my size and just BE. Finding the right suit doesn't hurt either. I found my "this is it" bathing suit (with ruching and some twisty thing at the boobs to make them look magically enhanced) last year and have been loving the hell out it. I'm planning on using until it falls apart as well. I love your suit and you look fantastic in it!

And I have loathed my body as long as I can remember. After I got pregnant with my daughter, however, I was so amazed by my body, and the fact that I lost all the pregnancy weight very quickly, that I was like, "You know what? 145 ain't so bad." If I can't lose weight easily, at least I can't gain it easily either. I love the swimsuit rec, but because I am very busty, I know it isn't going to work for me. Too bad. But I've been buying my swimsuits exclusively from bra companies that specialize in bigger chest sizes (esp Panache), and am pretty happy with the results.
