No Fighting On Date Night!

june 15, 2006
One of the biggest perks of having a job is getting a guaranteed date night with Rob. Once a week, I have a babysitter stay a few hours longer so we can go out to dinner. It gives us something to look forward to every week. All day long we text each other messages about date night. With the cost of dinner and the babysitter, it's unclear if I make any money that day. But it's worth it!

One time Rob bought a discounted dinner package through GroupOn. As soon as we entered the restaurant, the hostess greeted us by saying, "Groupon?"

Rob leaned in and whispered to me, "How did he know I had a Groupon coupon?" One look around the restaurant was obvious. We were a good forty years younger than everyone else sitting at the tables. It made for a wild night.

Another time we got into the stupidest fight before dinner. Luckily the friends we were meeting with were 30 minutes late so we could hash it out. By the time they arrived we made up! Had they showed up on time, yikes! Not our finest moment.

  1. Fun! I miss how easy date nights are in New York - so much choice on your door step! Have you been to Cafe Luxembourg on W70th? That was our local - one of my faves!

  2. I love that you do a date night each week, it must really keep you really connected as a couple, not just as co-parents. I love hearing all about New York, ESPECIALLY great places to eat!

  4. Love this! BTW, why are the dates blurred out in your text screenshots? Just curious if that's something I should be doing, too, for security reasons or something?

  5. Date night saves relationships! You might want to write a little note about each date night and then compile all of them together and give it as a present to Rob! (Although to be honest, those tend to be presents for ourselves.)

  6. We don't have kiddos yet but still find it fulfilling to get out of the apartment just the two of us. We just had an incredible low-key date night at a dive bar in South Slope playing board games and eating bar food. The opportunity to connect without the distractions of the t.v., tasklist, and assorted electronics, is key.
