Below is a simple and delicious Black and White Smoothie recipe I created using the Pure Protein Vanilla Cream Whey Powder.
Black and White Smoothie
1 scoop of Pure Protein Vanilla Cream Whey Protein Powder
1 tbsp cacao powder
6-8 oz unsweetened vanilla coconut milk beverage
1/4 avocado
1/2 frozen banana
1 tsp raw honey
2 ice cubes
Place everything into the blender and mix until smooth. Serves one.
I was introduced to the importance of having protein for breakfast in high school during a SAT prep class. The teacher, aka gym coach, told us to eat healthy fats and protein (without sugar!) the morning of the test. It was the first time I ever thought of breakfast in terms of protein, not just calories. Her advice stuck with me. Every morning since, I've tried to include protein in my breakfast. Why? A quick google search reminded me the protein helps supports brain function and leads to increased alertness throughout the morning. With a whopping 20 grams of protein in each bar Pure Protein sent me and 25 in each gram scoop of the Vanilla Cream Whey Protein Powder, I can feel confident my kids and I are functioning at our best!

I am a must have protein for breakfast person. Would love to try this product. Will definitely try your shake recipe. Thanks.

Also love your mug...just fancy enough to feel special!
I always have smoothies but have never added protein powder before! Will have to give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteMust have my protein in the AM too...so I usually have oatmeal and a protein shake..vanilla is the best but right now I switched it up and have chocolate!
ReplyDeleteI like to have some eggs, but if I'm short on time I'll make a protein shake -- yum! I like chocolate protein powder with some strawberries and a good handful of spinach (totally can't taste it!)
ReplyDeleteI usually eat bulgur (sounds gross, but it's basically just wheat) and I sometimes toss in some berries with it. It's healthy, but doesn't have a whole lot of protein. I'm considering a switch now after your post.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I like how you included a straw, it makes shakes go down easier. I usually have a protein bar for breakfast too.
ReplyDeletegreek yogurt (fage 0% or chobani) eaten in my first class!
ReplyDeleteI try to eat eggs every morning, and if I'm awake early enough ill pull out my juicer and make everyone some sort of juice from random things in my fridge.
ReplyDeletei usually eat oatmeal for the fiber...could definitely use a protein boost...i usually like eggs but sometimes they gross me out!
ReplyDeleteLove to make a quick breakfast burrito with eggs, fresh salsa and a wheat tortilla. Protein is so important!
ReplyDeleteI'm horrible when it comes to breakfast,so I try to keep a drawer of breakfast items at work. I love the Pure Protein bars.I also try to keep some whole wheat english muffins and fruit in that drawer as well.
ReplyDeleteMy go-to in the morning is usually some kind of eggs with either bacon or sausage. My favorite eggs right now are fried with a drizzle of pesto on top!
ReplyDeleteI always have a cup of tea and some chocolate. :( I need to work on this one!
ReplyDeleteLove to have eggs with some toast also love a protein shake!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm just an old-fashioned cereal kind of gal. Although now that I'm an adult, I usually have almond milk and granola, not Cheerios and whole (gasp!) milk! The hubs has been really into smoothies of late, so I typically sneak a sip of that in the mornings, too!
ReplyDeleteI too have a smoothie with protein powder and a banana every morning, it keeps me full for hours with the inclusion of Greek yogurt, PB, unsweetened milk of some sort, and a few frozen berries. The Black&White smoothie here is totally loaded with sugar- it's in the whey powder, banana, vanilla coconut milk, and the addition of honey. Sugar is sugar no matter where it comes from (except for pure maple syrup). I would make sure the coconut milk is unsweetened and skip the honey altogether.
ReplyDeleteYes-you are correct. The coconut milk was unsweetened. I made the changes. :)
DeleteIn my defense, I wouldn't considered this smoothie "loaded with sugar". The Pure Proteins Whey protein = 2g sugar, the 1 tsp raw honey has around 5g, and the 1/2 banana has around 5g.
Ha, sorry. I just realized how completely bitchy my post sounds, and I would like to apologize to you because I didn't mean to be on the attack. I have been on some sort of a candida diet for a million years and it has made me acutely aware of the sugar content of everything (including fruit) and I guess I get defensive about how much sugar can be hidden in food.
Deletethe smoothie sounds like a great go-to meal in the morning. i've been making oh joy's three ingredient pancakes a few days a week and its a big hit with my boys (also packed with protein).

I usually heat up egg whites, spinach and turkey sausage in the microwave (to save time). Another quick go to is steel cut oats with almond butter and honey. Your smoothie sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteWe usually have oatmeal with peanut butter, banana and almond milk. So interesting to see what other people have on weekday mornings
ReplyDeleteI've been having oatmeal and then hummus and pretzel chips for a mid morning boost. I have been looking for a good protein shake and am interested to try this!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite weekday breakfast food is a banana with a macchiato! The tastes blend so well together!
ReplyDeleteI love to have avocado toast in the morning, but I usually end up having some oatmeal that I keep stashed in my desk drawer at work.
ReplyDeleteI always do a protein smoothie - as a vegetarian it's a great way to start the day with an energy boost! Would love to win this prize!!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like having different things everyday, I have found out that having the same thing is not boring at all and also makes you feel full with less. My latest everyday morning includes a cup of (the best I can find claiming they are sugar free) cornflakes with milk.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite easy breakfast is eggs with fresh arugula, feta and Sriracha! But I think I should get to crackin' on this smoothie thing. Everyone seems to love it. :)

Fage yogurt and coffee!
ReplyDeleteI am loving Greek yogurt with banana slices, toasted pecans, and honey.
ReplyDeleteThat smoothie recipe sounds and looks great! I never have more than enough time for a quick cup of coffee, but will definitely give this a shot!

I love a high-protein breakfast, so a protein bar would be perfect on busy days! Lately I'm loving greek yogurt with cereal and berries, or egg whites and spinach on a sandwich thin. Thanks for the giveaway :)
ReplyDeletejordan.dunne21@gmail.com
Most weekday breakfasts are now cereal, but we used to be more varied. I like eggs and toast best. :)
ReplyDeleteLove a great breakfast sandwich with egg whites, cheddar, tomatoes and spinach.
ReplyDeleteI always have the frosty chocolate powder because it's easy to just mix it up when I'm hungry but don't feel like cooking lol.
ReplyDeleteEvery weekday it is oatmeal for me with almonds and cinnamon, at the weekend it is eggs
ReplyDeleteI usually have a smoothie (berries + unsweetened vanilla almond milk+ greek Yogurt), toast with peanut butter, and if I'm really hungry, or have time to spare, I'll cook an egg.
ReplyDeleteI would like to try to add protein powder to my smoothies.
Fage yogurt with brown sugar + a cafe latte.
ReplyDeletei'm similar to you, i learned in high school the importance of having a solid breakfast. my mom always prepared homemade oatmeal with berries, cinnamon, and roasted almonds. now that i'm an adult, i love replicating this breakfast. mom knows best!
ReplyDeleteFavorite breakfast: Oatmeal with berries and walnuts and an egg sunny side up. My son usually has a banana, blueberries, yogurt and a couple of tiny pieces of cheese (he's 9 months).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is an eggwhite omelete, but I never have time! I've been doing yoghurt lately because it's easy to run out the door with it!
ReplyDeleteI like wheat toast with peanut butter and bananas.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of protein shake, but I don't really like protein bars. Actually they contain a lot of calories. If you really want to eat it, a half of protein bar will be enough for you. But I have more good ideas for healthy breakfasts: warm milk with muesli, cottage cheese with banana, honey or any jam, two eggs mixed with milk and two toasts.
ReplyDeleteWhey protein? Isn't that what bodybuilders drink? Wouldn't I get muscles like them or gain more weight if I drink it? So, am I not allowed to eat while I'm still drinking the smoothie? Mixing it with avocado will make the smoothie more thick and creamy -- just the way I like it! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and by drinking protein shakes and healthy smoothies like this, it'll surely get us through the day. We also have to watch what we eat during lunch and dinner so the smoothie can take effect.
ReplyDeleteNot sure Ill win anything now. But my weekday b-fast of choice is a shake. Vanila powder mixed with BlueDiamond Vanilla Almond milk, ice, 1/4 banana, Bobs Red Mill old fashioned rolled oats, ageve nectar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, aloe powder, and Florastor.
