Updating

A few things  . . .

Found out the results of my BRCA gene mutation test: Negative. I do not have the BRCA gene mutation. Hip Hip Hurray. The wait was awful. So glad I have good friends to help me go through it. My one regret? Not using a genetic counselor. Didn't realize how crazy this test was making me. Glad to have the results and peace of mind.

I got a job working full time the next two weeks. Yeah. YAY. It pays well, I can do it from home, and listen to podcasts/NPR while working. So lucky.

Found the perfect floor plan for my living room this holiday season and beyond. I have two large windows just like the picture. I made the changes and already love the vibe.

That's it.

What to Wear to a Concert: You Probably Shouldn't Listen to Me

kaskade insta
On Saturday, my friend Naomi hooked me up with tickets to see her husband Ryan (aka Kaskade) perform at a (sold out!) show at the Barclays Center. Look at him standing on the table. The command he has over the crowd is extraordinary. They eat him up.

On the subway ride home, a guy from the concert started a conversation with Rob and me by exclaiming, "I just have to say it. That was amazing!" I agreed. You just have to say it. I told him I would pass the message on. He then proceeded to spell his name R-A-M-O-N to clear up any confusion. So there it is Naomi. Ramon (NOT Ramone) said the show was amazing. Please pass it on to Ryan.

This time, I didn't want to make the same concert fashion blunders I've made in the past. My options were either Rob's jeans or the red dress I've worn to death lately. Those weren't going to do. I kick scooted my way all the way to Madewell to see if I could come up with something better. I had one hour.

Madewell is nailing it this season. J.Crew seems a little too preppy and precious and girly for my taste lately. I know they are the same store, but I like the young tomboy vibe of Madewell. Their prices are out of control, but worth the splurge. It's all about quality over quantity for me. I'd rather get one pair of jeans from Madewell over an entire outfit (with shoes) from H&M. And plus, everything fits me better at Madewell. Their size M dresses/tops and 28 pants are made for my body. Makes shopping so much easier.

In a matter of minutes, I fell in love with this pair of jeans (no muffin top) and this silk blouse. I already had the boots from last year to complete the outfit. I felt like a rock star. If only I could pose like one . . .
thanks for the glamour shots, Rob. i'm working it.
The night was unlike anything I normally experience. I was so glad to be there with Rob this time. After the cocktail party, we danced our asses off until the show was over at 12am. And while I was easily 10 years older than most of the people in the audience, I didn't feel it. That is, until Naomi invited us to the after party. Wait, what? People continue on for a few more hours? I'm done. I thanked her for the fabulous night and moon walked my way right out of the venue. It's been two days and I'm still recovering. Oh, the life of a friend of a wife of a rock star is soo exhausting.
A girl came up to Rob at the concert and asked, "Do people ever tell you you look exactly like Terry Richardson?"
So Creepy! But perhaps a stellar couples Halloween costume idea? I'll be Miley!

Measure of My Success

Everything came crashing to a head as I was putting laundry away yesterday. Specifically when I got to the socks. As I looked at all our orphan socks laying there all sad and limp, I remembered an interview I read years ago about a guy whose book was being made into a movie.

The interviewer asked him, “What do you did with your first big check?”

He replied, “I went to my sock drawer, threw out all my socks and bought a ton of matching black ones.”

Ever since reading that quote, I've been jealous of him. Not only because he wrote a decent book, but also because he couldn't have chosen anything more incredible to buy. His socks were the measure of his success. And by that standard, he was doing quite well.

Then there's my socks. I'm looking at about 31 pairs of unmatched socks. Do I ever throw them away? No, I can't. Not yet. I'm holding onto them with the hope I'll find the missing one soon. It's that same hope that I have to write a book someday. Either of those things might never happen, but I'm dramatic enough to keep my singleton socks in an old suitcase in my closet. Because you better believe, the day I write and publish that book, there's going to be a hell of a sock purge. And what will I replace them with? I'm thinking orange polka-dot ones.

Socks: The measure of my success. I can't wait for the day.

Ugh. But at least . . .

Ugh. I'm feeling lousy. I think I might have the flu. But it's probably a regular cold with flu symptoms. Never can really tell. But at least Bansky's using NYC as his canvas for the month of October. That's good news. The audio on his website is pretty funny. I'm depending on Banksy himself to keep me updated so maybe I can see one before it's painted over.
throwing up flowers. omg such a pretty party theme idea!
And at least Louie C.K. cured me of my cellphone addiction with his brilliant bit. Just what I needed to put my phone down and experience that forever empty feeling. Yes.

And finally, at least I've got a great lipstick for fall. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire and Ice is the perfect mix of red, pink, and orange. It's the exact color of my dress, everything J.Crew is selling this year, and my boys ties. Matching everything in my life gives it meaning.
this is my eyes shut version of this picture. here's one with them open
So there it is. 3 things to make me realize everything is coming up roses. And not the throw-up kind. The kind I put in a vase and take million pictures of and forget to change the water out so they wilt and die in 2 days. That kind. Life is good.
