Last year I read that quote here and it's stayed with me. Enter Henrietta's Birthday cake. Days later and I still can't stop thinking about it. I wanted details. I found out Aunt Emily made the cake. Uncle Brian was in charge of the icing and strawberries. And little Henrietta did the sprinkles. You guys nailed this Birthday cake. It's a perfect mess.

Martha Is OVER

I absolutely love this! :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I agree wholeheartedly. This cake is the most perfect representation of imperfection I have ever seen!
ReplyDeleteI don't think Martha's OUT, but this cake is certainly IN! I want to have this cake it and eat it too.
ReplyDeleteI used to be a fan of "perfect" store bought cakes until I saw this. I love how they did this together as a family too.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I bet it tasted great too.
ReplyDeleteYou know what? Nothing about that first picture struck me as un-pretty in the least! I actually misread the quote at first and thought Martha had made that cake, and I was all "Yeahhh Martha! Way to get with the times!" Haha!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, though. What a way to celebrate a pretty little lady on her birthday :)
I love this cake! It's perfection in the realest way possible! I linked back to you on my blog because I love that quote and this cake so much!
ReplyDeletedarling cake!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's the bright colors that make it the perfect imperfect cake!:)

Well I'm glad our cake was a hit.
ReplyDeleteOne important tip: look up ways to modify your cake mix if you're planning to make a layered cake from a boxed mix. Boxed mixes are SO moist and soft that they cannot support the weight of multiple layers. We used a Betty Crocker mix and there were modification instructions on the Betty Crocker website, http://www.bettycrocker.com/menus-holidays-parties/parties-and-get-togethers/~/media/Files/PDF/BC_Weddingcakeflyer%20FNL.ashx
Dude, I should have a daddy blog...
martha ain't out, but this cake is certainly in because of martha- look at that thing! it's like a kid got a hold of a martha stewart baking book. so so good!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed. and craving sweets. aruba is lacking in the desserts.
ReplyDeleteA mess? is lovely! When I saw the first pic I thought "WOW this is pretty!" I wanted to do that with the sprinkles for Matthew's 1st b-day, little I knew that putting the frosting in the fridge and then adding the sprinkles wouldn't let them stick to it....oh well, lesson learned ;)
ReplyDeleteThe cake is seriously so great! I love that the daddy was in charge of the icing and strawberries...that part looks so full of creativity and love, and makes me miss my own daddy :). Way to go, Sharon's family!
ReplyDeleteThis cake is brilliant. Exactly what cake should be - fun and messy.
ReplyDeleteWhile I love Martha's ideas I know I can never achieve her mark of perfection. It's robotic.
Sacrilege! The cake's great, but it has nothing to do with Martha. Martha is classic and will never be over!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, this is a cake I want to eat. And I can do imperfect. :)
