Dancing Makes it Better

First day of kindergarten for my boys today. Oscar's dancing perfectly describes my feeling on the situation.

I've never longed for the days when my kids were babies. I'm not really a baby person. I gladly threw out their bottles, pinkies, and cribs. Same thing went for the toddler stage--good bye sippy cups, high chairs, and strollers. Recently I started telling them to stop growing so fast because it's what my mom told me and it's what I hear people say to their kids. I've told my kids a million times to stop eating their veggies because they grew too tall over night.

But the truth is, I can't wait for them to grow up! Each stage bring more independence, more self awareness, and way less tears and tantrums. I'm looking forward to my boys turning 5 years old next month. I can't wait to see what this year brings us. If it's more dancing like this, I think it's going to be a good one. Maybe even a year I'll long for!

Oscar's dancing at my sister-in-laws wedding in a bow tie from Nordstrom and a shirt from Zara.

Keep reading for more pictures of the reception. . .

Break dancing with the bride
Love love love Ella's dress. Found it on the sale rack at Zara for $12.99!
lots of things for the kids to do at the reception like pounding out notes on a type writer.
Other things like croquet and a photo booth. Ella's running to tell Oscar the good news about the photo booth.
And a very dignified game of bean bag toss. For serious gentlemen and ladies only.
It was such a fun reception for kids and adults!

  4. Love this post. I am stuck at the airport waiting for a delayed flight. I was huffing and puffing about everything until I saw this. Thanks for posting the video of our little guys dancing. Our kids always make me so proud... and mad, but let's just focus on so proud tonight. Love u Sharon.

  5. Adorable. Some serious moves there. The only dancing moves Henry knows are karate kicks in people's faces. Your boys are so civilized! Must be NYC...

His dance moves are excellent. There is a future there I'm telling you.

  16. Oh my, save the dancing video to bust out when you meet their first serious dates because if they don't recognize the early sign of awesomeness then they got to go

  18. Oh I wish I could feel that way about my daughter getting older. As exciting as it is to watch her become a little toddling girl, it's so hard for me to let go of the baby phase. Sigh!

  23. This is one of the more adorable things I have EVER. SEEN. SO HILARIOUS AND ENDEARING!!! They seem like the coolest most confident boys EVER. I love how they are kind of just......nonchalantly doing their thing. Not going crazy, barely paying attention to anyone or anything around them, just kind of mindlessly grooving to the music in their own world. SO SO SO CUTE. I can't even handle it.

  24. My boyfriend is 25 and dances just like your son... I think it's hilarious and adorable! I always encourage him to dance with me when we go out and he thinks I'm making fun of him, but honestly it's just so nice to see people groove out and have a good time without caring what they look like and what other people think. I hope Oscar doesn't lose that as he grows up. You have a beautiful family!

  28. OMG -- Oscar is so freaking cute.

Kids are so uninhibited and dance like no one is watching. They truly 'feel' the music and just groove.

    Truly lovely!

    Thanks for making my day.

  29. love it and what a great song to dance to. i do particularly love how serious he stays while dancing - my 4 year old has very similar dance moves but after a while will burst into giggles and turn to some break dancing... but Oscar, he keeps with the wrist circles and hip thrusts - loyal to his moves. It's priceless, something to pull out at his 21st!

  40. How has kindergarten started already? Certainly not at a public school in NYC. I teach here and I've never heard of any school starting before Labor Day...

  46. I love all images of kids dancing. They don't care who is looking or how they look.Just having a fun. Usually takes me a drink or 2 to be that relaxed and carefree.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Both the boys are such good dancers! They do look like little gentlemen. :)

  48. I'm with you - I'm not a baby person either. I start liking my kids so much more when they are a year or so. Devilish - I know! Having a third scares me because of the thought of going through that first year again. No baby announcement.

    Love the dancing video BTW
